Zidane may lose golden ball, Italy the world cup?

After launching an investigation into the events surrounding Zinedine Zidane’s headbutt, FIFA president Sepp Blatter has hinted at the possibility that Zidane might be stripped of the Golden Ball.

I’ve also just found out that voting for the Golden Ball was open before the match and FIFA could not confirm how many of those votes were cast before Zidane’s red card.

The French headbutter is set to speak tonight on French TV station Canal Plus.

Al-Qabas today also wrote that Italy might be stripped off the World Cup title. The news was on their first page, but the article itself did not include how, why or any details what so ever about Italy losing the title. The title itself was quoted from Der Spiegel, a German magazine. A visit to their International and German websites showed there was no such news item.

I actually respect Zidane for what he did and im an official C3 referee so I know my rules. He should be awarded the golden ball. I think he had all the right to do what he did, I would of red carded him none the less. Anyways I think he made the italians fall for real.

I hope that Zidane does get stripped of the award… he didn’t deserve it anyway, even without the headbut. He only had ONE good game throughout the whole tournament.
The fact they even gave to him in the first place after what he did, ruined all the credibilty of FIFA. They have a lot of work to do to regain the respect before 2010.

Take the title away from Italy? Won’t be done, but they had to cheat to get it. (Second round match against Australia, 3 minutes into added time… Fabio Grosso… clear simulation)

Justin, oh an official referee! pretty cool to have you here. What do you think of the refereeing level in the tournament? perhaps you can give us your opinion on some of the refereeing mistakes.

Steve, the golden ball is actually decided by the media (journalists) , and not FIFA.

And thanks for checking out the blog 🙂
