Liverpool have announced that striker Fernando Morientes has joined Valencia for an undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old former Real Madrid striker failed to live up to his reputation during his 16 months on Merseyside and managed just 12 goals in 61 games for the Reds.

A statement on Liverpool's official website read: 'Everybody at Liverpool would like to wish `Nando' all the best with his new club in Spain.'

Morientes joined Liverpool in January 2005 for £6.3million from Real but struggled to adapt to the Premiership.

The move, for a fee believed to be less than £3million, comes just two days after Morientes' agent said the player would not be returning to Spain this summer.

Liverpool were linked with a swap deal that included Italian striker Marco Di Vaio, but the player rejected the move.

wasnt he staying?
benitez has to be one of the worst managers in the transfer market, i read that he sold him for 2 million pounds, while he bought him for like 8 million or even more!
liverpool should hire a transfer manager!
if he sells cisse, hes definately lost it, no matter who he brings in.

check out our blog, i finally figured out the pages thingi and changed the colors, both of us should like the colors 😛 espcially with arsenal going back to “red” next season.

More like one of the best managers. With Morientes’ record, anyone would have bought him. Nobody can say if a player shines or becomes a flop. Benitez bought him for 6.3 and sold him for around 3m. Benitez also brought in Jose Reina, Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia, whom without, Liverpool wouldn’t have won the Champions League nor made progress in the Premier League and topped Arsenal.

Reina didnt play at the final!

So? his contribution to the EPL and CL counts for nothing? or the fact that he’s goal keeper of the season?
