FC Sevilla – UEFA Cup Champions 2005/2006

Steve McClaren's comeback kings were well and truly toppled by Sevilla in the final of the UEFA Cup as Middlesborough lost 4-0. There was no spirited fightback from Boro – only a tame surrender as Sevilla ran riot. Brazilian Luis Fabiano put McClaren's team behind in the first half, West Brom reject Enzo Maresca added two after the break and former West Ham and Spurs striker Fredi Kanoute grabbed the fourth in the 89th minute. The next England would have loved to have added the UEFA Cup to his roll of honour but his team suffered a night of embarrassment. Boro would have been the first ever club to win the Cup with the worst ever league position if they had won.
